In December 2011 a Twilight Zone-like miniseries out of the UK called Black Mirror premiered. In the first episode a man was forced, through public will, to violate himself on live television.

The gross act, as well as the circumstances surrounding it could have happened in real life, but are not likely events. The horrifying reality of the episode was in the reaction of the fictional public. For over an hour they watched unflinchingly, judgementally, amused by this man's torture.

I know for a fact that this is reality. I've seen it for myself.

The idea that I could capture a moment in time and show it to them instantly blew the minds of these young children in South Africa. They couldn't resist coming right up to the lens and begging me to take more photos!

This photo was taken in a small village called Hamakuya in South Africa. Most of the children there had never seen a white person before, and were terribly afraid of me when I first interacted with them. Through body language, I had to communicate that I was just like them and was not there to harm, only to help and learn.

I recently decided to take a vacation to relax and decided upon Cape Town solely for the weather this time of year. I have been here for one week and am so glad I came here. I am staying in the Western Cape, specifically the suburb of Green Point. I rented a flat for the two weeks of my trip and I feel so "at home" here. I recommend staying in the Green Point area, everything is nearby, safety is not an issue here and the local's in the area are very helpful.
Things that you must do while in Cape Town:
